Alpena man orders pizza party for hospital workers

Associated Press - June 22, 2009 11:44 AM ET

PETOSKEY, Mich. (AP) - Some patients express their thanks to hospital workers through a card, letter or kind word or two.

Not Richard May.

The Alpena man threw a pizza party for the hospital staff he says saved his life.

Alpena General Hospital and Northern Michigan Regional Hospital employees and their families were invited to Petoskey's Pizza Hut for lunch earlier this month.

Manager Brian Stokes tells the Petoskey News-Review that his restaurant also delivered pizzas to the hospital during the day and also for the night shift. All told, the restaurant made around 100 pizzas.

The 74-year-old May was treated for cellulitis, an infection that spreads from one point to the rest of the body.

Petoskey is located in northern Lower Michigan.
