MONITOR TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Bay County police say a man was Tasered and faces felony charges after he resisted arrest and threatened to break a baby's neck.

Authorities say 26-year-old Jose Garcia of Edcouch, Texas, was holding his 5-month-old niece and sitting in a vehicle when they responded to a retail fraud complaint Wednesday night in Monitor Township.

Police say Garcia, who is wanted in Texas and Michigan, used the child as a shield after officers discovered his real identity.

Police tell The Bay City Times Garcia said, "I will kill this baby, I will break its neck."

The infant was not harmed.

Garcia is charged with unlawful imprisonment, retail theft, resisting and obstructing police and second-degree child abuse.

Jail officials did not immediately know if Garcia had a lawyer.
