GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - Police say a commercial-grade firework or mortar caused an explosion inside an unoccupied Grand Rapids Public Schools van.
The Grand Rapids Press reports the blast happened about 1 a.m. Friday at Lincoln School, which serves special needs students.
The explosive was the type used at a professional fireworks show. They are illegal to possess without a license.
The blast, which badly damaged the van, is under investigation. School officials say it doesn't appear the school itself was targeted.
