BEULAH, Mich. (AP) - The Benzie County Sheriff's Department is investigating the death of an inmate who hung himself in his jail cell.
The department says in a statement that 49-year-old Edward D. Baughman of Elberta used bedsheets to hang himself in his one-person cell on Friday afternoon. Jail staff performed CPR, but he was pronounced dead at Paul Oliver Hospital in Frankfort.
Baughman had been booked into the jail Aug. 16 on a criminal charge. The statement says no further information is available.
Beulah is 20 miles southwest of Traverse City in northwest Lower Michigan.
