NEW YORK (AP) - Essence Carson scored 17 points, Tiffany Jackson added 12 and the New York Liberty closed their disappointing season with an 86-65 victory over the playoff-bound Washington Mystics on Sunday.

Carson scored 14 points and Jackson had 10 in the third quarter as the Liberty (13-21) built a 16-point lead, saw it cut to seven, then pulled away again.

New York, which fell one win short of reaching the WNBA finals last year, will miss the postseason for the fourth time in franchise history.
