MSU Studies How Climate Change Affects Business

Posted:

Michigan State University researchers are leading a $1.5 million global study of the effects of climate change on global markets in a range of industries.

Geographer and lead researcher Julie Winkler said Monday the study builds on her earlier work to develop computer models of the effect of climate change on tart cherry production and tourism in Michigan.

She says the tart cherry business centered in northern Michigan provides a useful guide to the global effect of climate on a range of industries, including manufacturing as well as agriculture.

The National Science Foundation is paying for the study. Researchers from Germany, Hungary, Poland, Ukraine also are participating.
