DOLLAR BAY, Mich. (AP) - Schools across Michigan have closed because of flu outbreaks, including many suspected cases of the H1N1 swine flu strain.

The Dollar Bay-Tamarack City district in the Upper Peninsula's Houghton County reopened Wednesday after being closed Monday and Tuesday. But with a 30 percent absence rate, Superintendent Jan Quarless canceled classes for the week.

Another rural district in Marquette County's National Mine and neighboring townships also closed for the week.

In the Lower Peninsula, East Jordan schools closed for the week. Superintendent Chip Hansen says maintenance workers are sanitizing district buildings.

About a dozen southwestern Michigan are closed, including Gull Lake, Vicksburg and Hastings.
