Olivet College Supply of H1N1 Vaccine Enough to Vaccinate Staff and Students

Posted:

Wednesday the Federal Government announced states may have to wait up to three weeks for more shipments of the H1-N1 Vaccine. But Olivet College won't be in line for the delivery. The school already has enough vaccine for everyone on campus.

H1-N1 has surfaced at Olivet college, the school has had twenty five confirmed cases of the flu.

Phillip Sullens, Olivet Student: "Everybody has been getting it, and coming down with symptoms of it."

But after this week the virus may have a tough time surviving at the college. The school has enough vaccine for all thirteen hundred of it's staff and students.

President Donal Tuski, Olivet College: " We feel lucky and thankful."

Olivet officials say the supply was provided by a local health clinic. A spokesperson from the clinic says they got the vaccines from Eaton County, and on Wednesday, 237 students and staff took advantage of the opportunity. They lined up for vaccinations to protect themselves from the contagious flu.

Rev Michael Fales: " I think our students are concerned, faculty and staff are concerned, and we are just trying to do the responsible thing."

Emily Evert, Olivet student: " It was important to me because I get sick really easy."

With a shortage of H1-N1 vaccines hitting school districts and health departments across the state, many at the college say they are aware of their good fortune.

Rev Michael Fales: "I feel blessed, we are a small campus, and on a small campus these kinds of things can spread."

Staff and students hope the shots, and nasal sprays, will be enough ammunition to kick the virus completely off campus.
