TV host Conan O'Brien meeting some Cranbrook bats

Associated Press - October 29, 2009 4:14 AM ET

BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich. (AP) - The Cranbrook Institute of Science is expected to help TV host Conan O'Brien get a little batty before Halloween.

Rob Mies was scheduled to appear during Thursday's "Tonight Show" on NBC along with bats from Cranbrook's Bat Zone. Mies is director of the Organization for Bat Conservation, which is based at Bat Zone.

Mies and some bats appeared with O'Brien on NBC's "Late Night" show back in 2005.

Bat Zone is home to more than 90 bats as well as owls and flying squirrels. They all either were injured and can't be released or have been rescued, donated from zoos or orphaned at a young age.

Bat Zone is located behind the main Cranbrook Institute of Science building in the Detroit suburb of Bloomfield Hills.
