New H1N1 Vaccine Shipments Headed to Ingham County

Posted:

It's the most sought-after vaccine, for a virus that's steadily gaining ground. And nowyou may just be able to find the h-1-n-1 vaccine at your own doctor.

Deputy Health Officer for Ingham County Health Department, Renee Canady: "We had about 65 providers enroll to receive H1N1 in their practices, of those 65 we are going to be able to allocate about 56 of them."

Those 56 local practices will mostly be made up of pediatricians and obstetricians. Some of them did receive a small supply of vaccines earlier this year, but not all.

Canady: "We had a very small proportion that we allocated with our first distribution, but this is a real, much more significant distribution."

Canaday says the extra vaccines won't be enough for everyone, but she says every little bit helps.

Canady: "We recognize that the numbers of vaccines that we're disemenating to practices is still not going to quite meet the need of their patient load, but at least it gets the pipe line going in the right direction."

And health officers hope that direction will lead to everyone getting vaccinated by the end of the year.
