Lansing Mayoral Candidates Make Final Push For Votes

Posted:

It's crunch time. With just hours to go before election day, both Mayor Virg Bernero, and City Council Member Carol Wood are making the time they have left count.

Carol Wood: "We started at ten this morning." All day Thursday wood and her campaign punched numbers and made call after call. Wood: " We've got a number of people who have been calling throughout the day, as they have been throughout the number of weeks, and we've got people making literature drops as we speak."

As time runs out, Benero said he has been working to balance city work, and the campaign trail. Bernero: " It's presented more of a challenge. We covered a lot of homes door to door, talking to a lot of people by phone, and we've got an army of volunteers in the field and in the office."

Both candidates agree these last few moments to capture undecided voters are important. Bernero: " The future of the City I believe is at stake." Wood:"Every hour counts in an election."

And although time is slipping away, and nerves are mounting, Wood: " You're always nervous." Bernero: " There is always jitters."

Each campaign believes their final efforts to gain and maintain support will payoff. Bernero: " It feels very good in my gut, from talking to people and going door to door, it seems as though things are on track."

Wood: " We have gotten really good feedback." But only time will tell which candidate will have the winning number of votes on election day.
