State Forces Cigarette Makers to Produce Safer Product

Tobacco companies now have to make the cigarettes they sell in Michigan a little safer. They won't be any healthier, but cigarette makers must now certify their brand families and associated styles as fire safe. That means cigarettes most be made to self-extinguish if left unattended. The manufacturing approval process starts, but the law won't be enforced until January 1st.
