5 charged in Flint courtroom brawl plead guilty

Associated Press - November 12, 2009 10:54 PM ET

FLINT, Mich. (AP) - A Flint woman and four others have pleaded guilty to charges stemming from a courthouse brawl that broke out moments after the woman's son was sentenced to life in prison.

A Genesee County judge in July had just sentenced Dekoven Kerr in the fatal shooting of JaQuan Dudley in June 2008 when Marilyn Kerr began pleading for the judge not to send her son to prison for life.

Onlookers began yelling and arguing before punches were thrown outside the courtroom.

Kerr, Demonte Lockett, Rashad and Rashid Nixon and Anquinette Kerr pleaded to resisting and obstructing, which carries up to a 1-year sentence. A sixth participant pleaded to disorderly conduct in August.

The Flint Journal says the Nixons will be sentenced Jan. 25, 2010. The rest will be sentenced Jan 19.
