MONTAGUE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - A 70-year-old western Michigan woman was trapped by hay bales for about 24 hours in her barn.

Authorities say the woman escaped serious injury. The Muskegon County sheriff's department says she was looking for her dog Thursday evening in the Montague Township barn, which was filled with hundreds of round hay bales.

The Muskegon Chronicle reports she was climbing on the bales when she fell between a crack. When she didn't show up for lunch with her brother the next day, he became concerned and called authorities.

Officials responded Friday afternoon and found the woman after searching for more than three hours. Authorities say she was alert when found and hoisted out from the hay bales with a rescue harness.

Montague Township is about 45 miles northwest of Grand Rapids.
