Traffic diverted on I-94 after french fry spill

Associated Press - November 22, 2009 6:14 PM ET

BRIDGMAN, Mich. (AP) - Traffic was detoured on Interstate 94 in southwest Michigan after a crash caused a truckload of frozen french fries to spill across the highway.

Police say the driver of the semi carrying the fries was unable to avoid a minivan that had stopped on the eastbound shoulder near Bridgman Friday. The South Bend Tribune reports the semi then veered across the median into the westbound lanes and the trailer came loose and split open, spilling the fries.

The Herald-Palladium of St. Joseph reports the driver of the minivan was listed in satisfactory condition Saturday night at a hospital in South Bend, Ind.

The westbound highway was closed while crews worked to clean up the wreckage and the fries.
