Jury picked in trial tied to activist's death

Associated Press - February 25, 2010 5:44 PM ET

CORUNNA, Mich. (AP) - A jury has been selected in the murder trial of a trucker charged with killing an abortion protester and a business owner in a small Michigan community.

Opening statements are set for Monday at the Shiawassee County courthouse in Corunna, 25 miles west of Flint.

Harlan Drake is charged with fatally shooting James Pouillon (POOL'-yuhn) as he protested abortion outside Owosso High School in September. Gravel-pit owner Mike Fuoss (FOOSE) was killed at his office just outside Owosso.

More than 100 people filled out a questionnaire, and dozens were invited back to the courthouse Thursday for jury selection.

Prosecutors predicted it would be difficult because Pouillon's protests had greatly aggravated Owosso. Drake claims he's not guilty because he was insane at the time.
