UPDATE: Rescue Crews Search For Possible Drowning Victim

UPDATE - 7:01 p.m.: A strong current in the Grand River is causing problems for dive teams trying to find a body. They're trying to get a boat out on the scene to help with the search.

Those crews are now calling their efforts to find the man a recovery instead of a rescue.

He went under in the area around Waverly and Wilbur Roads around 5:45 p.m. Officials tell 6 News he was in a canoe when there was some kind of accident.

 

ORIGINAL STORY - 6:32 p.m.: Rescue crews are searching the Grand River after reports of a man who may have gone under.

It happened around 5:45 p.m. near the intersection of Waverly and Wilbur Roads. That's south of Lansing near Dimondale, along the border of Delhi and Windsor Townships.

Officials at the scene tell 6 News reporter Justin Schecker that a man apparently went under after a canoe accident.

Firefighters are on the scene and they've also called in a dive team to assist with the search.
