A Michigan State University medical student accused of killing several dogs faced a judge again Wednesday morning. Wednesday, 24-year-old Andrew David Thompson was in East Lansing's District Court where he was formally charged with three additional counts of killing, mutilating or torturing an animal.
The latest charges, out of East Lansing are on top of the 11 other charges issued earlier this week from Meridian Township. He lives at the Berry Tree complex off Mt. Hope near Hagadorn Road. Prosecutors believe Thompson bought several dogs over the past nine months, took them there, and killed them.
Right now, Thompson's behind bars in the Ingham County jail. His bail has been set at $600,000.
"I believe that this court's decision was excessive, inappropriate, much higher than would be warranted given the nature of the charges," said George Zulakis, Thompson's attorney.
The MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine suspended Thompson on June 23 when the allegations first surfaced.
