The Michigan Department of Human Services received a donation of 50 handmade fleece blankets made by more than 100 Michigan Americorps members.
The blankets will be given to children entering foster care in Ingham County to provide comfort during a difficult time.
"Many of these kids entered the system with very little clothes on their back, you know, things in a trash bag, so this blanket will be given to them as a symbol of comfort and the love that hopefully they will experience when they enter the foster care system," said Paul Kaiser VanDam, executive director, Michigan Community Services Commission.
The blankets were made as part of an annual Michigan Community Service Commission project in honor of the annual Americorps week.
