It's called the Built by Michigan campaign. The goal is to make Michigan the leader in auto technology for electric cars.
An online petition asks the governor and lawmakers to support the production and sale of electric cars.
Officials with the campaign say technology related to electric cars has already brought jobs to Michigan, and more could be on the way.
"So we need to have a comprehensive strategy, and then finally we need to make sure it's made here, it's not enough to do the research and development. The jobs come from making it here," say U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow.
The petition also asks for more charging stations incentives and up-front rebates to people who buy an electric car.
