
Maria Hechanova joined the 6 News team in August 2011. She moved more than 2,000 miles across the country from Arizona to Michigan and is excited to learn about the Midwest!
Prior to 6 News, Maria worked for KYMA News 11, the NBC affiliate in Yuma, AZ for nearly two years. She started as a producer/multimedia journalist and worked her way up to morning anchor. She covered a wide range of stories from drug seizures at the border to heartwarming military homecomings. She even got the chance to ride in a jet with the Blue Angels.
While in college, Maria interned with NBC's TODAY Show in New York City and KPHO-TV CBS 5 News in Phoenix.
Maria grew up in Glendale, AZ and graduated from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff where she was a Division I student-athlete on the women's swimming & diving team. Go Lumberjacks!
