Witnesses Share Details On Shooting At KFC

Posted: Updated: Oct 17, 2011 10:50 PM EDT

Witnesses are coming forward with details about the shooting that left 21-year-old Marcus Alan-Scott dead Friday night at a Lansing Kentucky Fried Chicken Restaurant.

Witnesses say they saw a fight between the suspect and the victim before his death.

"The victim then began to flee the suspect by running out the back door, but then he was shot and fell. He got shot in the chest area torso in the front," said Lt. Noel Garcia, Lansing Police Department.

KFC corporate officials say they'll keep the East Michigan Avenue location closed until after the victim's memorial service, but the company didn't mention whether it is liable. The location never had surveillance cameras and its manager refused to explain why.

"I'm surprised they wouldn't provide that safety net for its workers. I think that's something KFC should be liable for," said Kevin Whitgen, owner of Discount One-Hour Signs.

For the Schrauben family healing has just begun.

A benefit in Schrauben's memory will be held at Rookies Restaurant on US-27 tomorrow between 5 and 8 p.m.

On Wednesday the victim's family will hold visiting hours at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home on East Michigan Avenue in East Lansing between 11 and 2 p.m., followed by a memorial service.

Police ask that anyone with any information on this case call detectives at 517-483-6859.

Original Story:

A East Lansing man is dead Friday night after he was shot in an attempted robbery.

Early Friday evening police were called to a robbery in progress. When they arrived they found a 21-year-old man lying in a parking lot with a single gunshot wound.

It happened just before 6 p.m. at the Kentucky Fried Chicken on the corner of East Michigan Ave and Shepard Street in Lansing.

Police are not yet releasing the name of the KFC employee who was shot and killed in the incident.

Police won't say whether or not he was shot inside the store or in the parking lot where he was found.

LPD says there were a number of employees and patrons in the restaurant when the incident happened. They are now in the process of interviewing all them to figure out exactly what happened there Friday night.

"Until we can get some detailed statement from our witnesses, we'll be doing a canvass in the neighborhood looking for any video, surveillance cameras that might be in the area so it's gonna take a little time until we can get more information," said Captain Mike Yankowski.

Now police are still looking for the suspect. He's a black male in his mid-twenties, about 6 feet tall, wearing a dark hoodie and carrying an orange and yellow bag and a handgun.

Police say he left the scene, headed westbound, in a burgundy Chevy-Corsica-style sedan.

He is considered armed and dangerous.

Police are still working right now to piece together all of the details. Of course, stay with 6 news. We will keep you updated as this story develops.
