The holiday season is quickly approaching, and what could be a better gift to receive than a long-awaited child?
Friday, there were lots of new moms and dads in the Jackson area as part of the 9th Annual Adoption Day.
It wasn't a typical day it court. There were lots of emotions in the courtroom, but it was all happiness. For one couple, a couple who's been through a lot themselves, their new son completes the family picture they've been wanting to have for so long. @
The courtroom isn't normally a place where you'd see so many smiles or tears of joy.
Friday's proceedings were all about celebrating new families.
You'd never know, seeing his big smile, that seven-year-old Diego Presley has been through so much.
"He's been through six homes in three years. We were his seventh home. The last home he was in, he was abused," said Joey Presley, Diego's dad.
After Diego spent eight months of being with Joey and Tammy Christian, they're officially a loving family.
"I wasn't able to have children, so this is a really big moment for me. And he means the world to me. And my husband. Even though I didn't have him, I felt like he was mine. And I could not picture not having him," said Christian, Diego's mom.
"I can't imagine anyone different. He came at the perfect time. A lot of people say he's blessed to have us, but I think it's more for us. My wife and I always had a great relationship, but I think there was always that little something, and he was it," said Joey.
He's the missing piece that fits right in.
10 children were adopted there Friday. A small group among the more than 2,000 Michigan children who have been adopted from foster care so far this year.
