While Governor Rick Snyder was celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. day in Lansing, some others were marking the holiday with a protest in Washtenaw County.
Hundreds are protesting in front of the governor's private home. Lansing area state employees left Monday afternoon to meet-up with the reverend Al Sharpton, U.S. Representative John Conyers and others to protest what they say is a racially biased law.
That law, they believe, makes it easier for Michigan to take-over financially struggling communities and school districts.
"We're also hoping that the other people in Michigan realize how drastic this law is and what this means for the state, and what it means for the country. If this type of legislation spreads across the nation, we could lose our ability to vote for our own elected officials in our local communities," said Ray Holman, UAW legislative liaison.
