There's a little extra stress for some area brides-to-be as they count down to their wedding day. The owner of a Lansing bridal shop has filed for bankruptcy and now customers are left waiting and wondering if they'll ever see their gowns.
It's a name brides have trusted for years. Letts Bridal suddenly shut its doors and its phone line.
Store officials say the store is closed and being restructured under new management. They say any customers with inquiries should contact them at lettsbridal@aol.com.
Contacting the store has become a major frustration for Katie Zwolenski. The bride-to-be says her bridesmaids were supposed to pick up their dresses last week.
"At this point we're wondering if we should just contact our credit card companies and go to another place. I have less than 6 months, most times, dresses take 6 months to come in," said Zwolenski.
Her bridesmaids are not only worried about their dresses, they're wonder if they'll ever get their money back.
"With the way the economy is right now, it's hard losing 100 dollars so I might lose all that 100 dollars and then have to pay 200 more dollars for a brand new dress," said Jessica Masternak, bridesmaid.
"It causes a lot of stress on us. You know like, now what do we do?" said Elizabeth Zwolenski, maid of honor.
A court seizure sign is posted on the store's door. An attorney for Aulrick Roy, the owner of the business, says he owes the landlord thousands of dollars. Roy filed for bankruptcy back in October, a little over a year after he took over the business.
Roy's attorney says he's personally working to see that every Letts customer gets their dress in time.
"We want to make sure that people who have weddings coming don't have their special day spoiled because of some business problems that came up somewhere else," said Norman Witte, attorney.
Witte says customers can contact his office by phone or email, the number is 517-485-0070 and the email is ncwitte@wittelaw.com. He asks that you provide your name, your order and the month of the wedding.
