The Lansing School District could soon lose two elementary schools and look much different.
Tuesday night the board listened to recommendations from the administration on ways they should reconfigure the district.
While the conversation has largely centered around the potential closing of a high school, Tuesday night it focused on elementary and middle schools.
Everyone, including school board members, was expecting the administration to name the high school they recommend closing, but that didn't' happen.
Administrators only said they feel a high school needs to be closed but naming that school should wait until a feasibility study is done.
Administrators say the board should name which high school should close by October.
Here's a look at the other recommendations.
In 2012 - 2013 the administration says the board should reconfigure a number of schools.
They say Otto and Pattengill should become 4-8 schools.
Post Oak, Cumberland, Gier Park, and Sheridan Road would all become Pre-k through 3rd grade schools.
Two of those schools; Pattengill and Post Oak would host international baccalaureate programs.
The recommendations also include closing Willow and Reo Elementary schools.
For 2013 to 2014 administrators want to reconfigure even more schools.
They would make Attwood, Cavanaugh, Kendon, Lyon, Forest View, Lewton and Averill all Pre-k through 3 schools.
Elmhurst, Mt. Hope, and North would become 4th through 6th grade schools and Riddle a Pre-k though 6th grade school.
A reconfigured Gardner would be just 7th and 8th graders.
And if you find all of this information overwhelming, well so did the board--
the president says they have a lot to think about.
Myra Ford, Lansing School board president: "I think essentially on the surface, I think it was a good recommendation but there's a lot of little pieces that we may need to look at before we're all comfortable enough to say yeah, we think this is a good idea."
Originally the board was planning to take action on the recommendations on Thursday, but the board president says given that fact that most parents are just hearing about the proposed reconfigurations now.
The next step will be a series of public hearings.
