An overnight fire destroyed a local community's church. Around 11:45 p.m. Tuesday night, the Wayside Baptist Church on Elm Road in Webberville caught on fire.
Several fire crews were on scene and it took about 30 minutes to battle the flames. Fire officials say the church was a total loss and no one was inside at the time.
"All's lost almost I guess, hopeless, but it's not the building it's the people that make the church so we just have to start from scratch and start over," said Pastor Ed Calhoun Wayside Baptist Church.
The church stood for 31 years and serviced 50 members. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
