A Jackson County family escaped their burning home Monday morning. Fire officials say the flames broke out at the house on the 300 block of Main Street in Rives Junction.
That's just down the block from a home that caught fire more than a week ago. Dawn Armstrong says she and her family were asleep when a fire broke out inside their Rives Junction home.
"I was just absolutely shocked when the alarm went off. I jumped up and I said 'Oh my goodness, everything is on fire, call 911'," said Dawn Armstrong.
Her husband and her father in-law were able to get out okay.
"My father-in-law is 80 years old and hard of hearing and very ill and we did get him out," said Armstrong.
Fire officials say the fire started in the back of the laundry room. @
"It was all contained to a small back laundry room, utility room. We'll have an investigation team investigate it," said John Sterrett, Rives-Tompkins Interim Chief.
Armstrong says her family lost everything and they're worried about what will happen next.
"We don't have anything so hopefully we'll be able to get some help you know and have a place to stay because we don't have anywhere to go," said Armstrong.
This is the second house fire to spark on Main Street in the last two weeks. Fire fighters are still investigating the cause of both fires. They don't believe the two are connected or suspicious.
Firefighters say the home is a total loss. The Red Cross is helping the family with a temporary place to stay.
