Ingham County Fire Destroys Home

Posted: Updated: Feb 8, 2012 11:49 AM EST

Another fire has forced a mid-Michigan family out of their home. Late Tuesday night, fire broke out at a home in rural Ingham County.

The fire sparked just before 11:30 p.m. at a home on the 3000 block of Bellevue road in Onondaga, just west of Leslie. Flames ripped through the roof and engulfed the home.

Crews from other agencies arrived to help, but say fighting the fire was a challenge since it was a rural area. Thankfully, no one was injured. Fire fighters say the home is a total loss, but the family may be able to recover some of their belongings.

In many of the fires happening locally lately, simple technology has saved lives. Officials can't emphasize enough how important it is to have a working smoke detector in your home. In two recent fires in Jackson county and Tuesday night's fire in Ingham County three families have been saved by the device.

Where the fire in Ingham County started and how it began is still under investigation.
