Clinton County Residents on High Alert due to Possible Scam

Posted:

Police in Clinton County are on the look-out for a possible impersonator, knocking on people's doors and pretending to be Consumers Energy employees. 6 News took the call Friday night from a resident living at Hawks Ridge Apartments in Bath, warning us of the possible scam. She told 6 News at around 8 o'clock Friday night a strange man came to the door. She says the man claimed to be from Consumers Energy, but wasn't wearing any uniform, nor did he have identification. She says she was uncomfortable, and did not let the man inside. When he left, she called Consumers Energy, who told her they did not have any employees in her area that night. 6 News also spoke with Consumers Energy today who told us the same thing. The woman also called police. We tried to get a hold of someone from the Bath Police Department, but they were unable to comment. However, we did reach the DeWitt Police Department who confirmed they're investigating a very similar situation in DeWitt. Consumers Energy says anyone with their company will have photo ID and if you have concerns, you can always call them, or call police.
