Suspect In Child Shooting Formally Charged

A Lansing man has now been formally charged with shooting a young child.

Caralo Johnson, Jr., appeared in court yesterday to face one count of "careless discharge causing injury or death."

That's after a February 10th incident at Cedar and Mt. Hope in which police a woman who was stalking Johnson rammed her car into his.

That woman faces multiple and more serious charges including stalking, assault, and child abuse.

The Ingham County prosecutor says while Johnson may have fired the weapon in self-defense, the shooting was too strong an action to meet the threat.

A young child was hit by a bullet, but is expected to survive.

A judge set Johnson's bond at $1,500. He's scheduled be back in court next week for a preliminary hearing.
