The Lansing School Board gave Superintendent T.C. Wallace "two weeks notice" Thursday night in a 6-3 vote.
The board approved a resolution that would put Wallace on paid administrative leave starting March 1st.
Wallace also has the option to voluntarily resign.
Wallace, who has been superintendent since 2007, has a contract that runs through the summer. He will continue to be paid through that contract.
His Lansing contract was later extended through 2013, and then shortened to end in 2012.
The resolution was not on the agenda, but the agenda does allow for late additions to the line up.
The resolution ends what has been - at times - a tumultuous relationship between Wallace and the board.
Back in 2009, Wallace was one of two finalists for a superintendent job in Pontiac, Michigan - a position he applied for even though he was stil under contract in Lansing.
"We just feel we need to have someone here that we're feeling comfortable with ya know, that can take us into the future," said Myra Ford, Board President.
The board also approved a motion to offer the interim superintendent position to Yvonne Caamal Canual, a former Lansing administrator.
