Local Parents Team Up To Fight Childhood Obesity

Posted:

Some local parents are teaming up to fight childhood obesity.

Saturday they'll kick off the second annual Kids Health and Wellness Expo in Okemos. There will be several fitness activities and vendors on-site to promote a healthy lifestyle.

Organizers say it's all about saving lives.

"The state of Michigan is the 10th largest obese state as it relates to adult obesity...and 70 percent of obese children are between the ages of 6 and 11 and that becomes obese adults," said Nadia Sellers.

The expo targets children, but people of all ages are invited. Organizers are also encouraging people to help break the world record for the largest Zumba class.

The expo begins at 1 p.m. Saturday at Meridian Mall in Okemos.
