A former Eaton County sheriff's deputy has been sentenced to jail time and probation for keeping money paid by out-of-state drivers who were stopped for violations.
Brian Cole was sentenced Thursday to 15 days behind bars and two years of probation.
The 34-year-old also was ordered to attend Gamblers Anonymous and isn't allowed to take part in any kind of gambling activity without permission. He was ordered to complete community service and pay restitution.
Cole resigned from the sheriff's office in November.
He pleaded guilty to a charge of embezzlement by a public official.
When pulled over, out-of-state drivers can either turn over their driver's license or pay a cash bond that ensures their ticket will be paid for. Authorities say Cole never reported those bonds to the district court.
