Ann Romney Speaks At Dinner In Jackson

Posted: Updated: Feb 20, 2012 06:26 AM EST

Governor Mitt Romney's wife, Ann Romney spoke at a Monday night event in Jackson.

Ann Romney says she is glad to be home.

"I love Michigan. Obviously Mitt and I grew up here, we fell in love here, we were actually in the same elementary school together, we were in high school together," said Ann Romney.

But this might not be the homecoming the campaign was hoping for. Romney, who's father was Michigan's governor, is playing catch up in his home state. Recent polls show he's 4 points behind Rick Santorum.

"We're gaining. And that's been the pattern. The whole election has been that up down, up down. But we're going to do well in Michigan," said Romney.

Romney says she's confident because they've been through this before.

"We were behind four years ago, coming about two weeks out, and this is exactly what happened four years ago. I'm hoping people are going to wake up and recognize this is, that it would be wonderful to have someone in the white house that's going to care about Michigan and is going to care about Michigan jobs,
said Romney.

At Monday night's Lincoln Day dinner she won't say much about the governor's policy or campaign strategies, but she'll speak about what kind of husband he is.

Organizers say they're exicted to bring this part of the presidential race to the birthplace of the Republican party.

Monday night's dinner was a sold-out event. More than 600 people attended.
