While Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum have been parachuting into Michigan and grabbing the headlines, one of their opponents has been touring the state for the last eight days with far less attention.
Political activist, and openly gay candidate Fred Karger was in Lansing Tuesday. He spoke to the Lansing Community College Gay-Straight Alliance.
Karger considers himself the Republican party's moderate candidate. He supports gay marriage as well as women's rights, but he has made the economy and jobs his top issues.
He says his biggest desire is see the Republican party stop being conservative and exclusive.
"I think the Republican party needs to be inclusive if we are going to have a future with younger people and students, which is why I've been speaking at LCC today, we need to be a more moderate party and welcome everyone in," said Karger.
Karger has kept up a busy campaign schedule since he landed in Michigan. He'll visit three colleges Wednesday before stopping back in Mason on Thursday and returning to Lansing on Friday.
