Woman Makes It Out Of Burning Home

Posted:

A woman made it out safely after fire broke out in her Lansing home.

The flames erupted at about 8 a.m. Tuesday on the 900 block of RG Curtis. That's on the city's south side.

Firefighters believe the fire started because the homeowner stored wood too close to a wood burning stove.

They say it's a good reminder to keep wood piles away from any heat source.

"What we recommend is that you leave the wood outside and I know it's inconvenient, but we have to remember, especially with a wood burner, it's live fire. We're so used to it, everything working right, nobody really thinks about it till an incident like this," said Steve Babcock.

Lansing fire firefighters say the home suffered some smoke damage.
