Senate Dem Leader Not Ruling Out A Run For Governor

Posted:

East Lansing Democrat Gretchen Whitmer is not ruling out a run for governor in two years.

The senate democratic leader has not formed a committee to run for governor, has not raised one penny to do it and for certain she has not decided to run.

Despite that, she concedes this point, "You'd be crazy to rule anything out," said Whitmer.

The East Lansing democrat is raising her public profile as a surrogate in Michigan for President Barack Obama. She will travel around the state, pumping his candidacy, but it also gives the voters a chance to get to know her, just in case she does run for governor.

She contends the biggest benefit is getting to see the people of Michigan while promoting the president's agenda.

The senator is adamant. She does not have a current master plan to run for governor but she will take a look at it.

"Of course I'm going to have to look and see what the field is and is there somebody I can get excited about supporting, so as long as I feel I have something to offer I'm not going to say no to anything," said Whitmer.
