After nearly a year of terror on Lansing's south side, a 33-year-old Lansing man is now behind bars, accused of a recent sexual assault.
Friday, William Deshiree Thomas was arraigned on 1st degree criminal sexual conduct with the use of a weapon and first degree home invasion charges.
Thomas was denied bond and is now behind bars in the Ingham County Jail. He is scheduled to appear in court again on April 17th.
The penalty for first degree criminal sexual conduct, which is a felony charge, is life or any term of years. The penalty for first degree home invasion, which is also a felony charge, is 20 years and/or $5000.
Thomas has a criminal past dating back to 1996. He was convicted of car theft and breaking and entering at that time.
Police say Thomas may be responsible for at least 3 other sexual assaults in Lansing. The first happened last May in the 42000 block of Richmond Street, the second in July on the 2800 block of Gibson and the third in September on the 4000 block of Christianson.
Friday's charges only pertain to the latest assault, which happened three weeks ago on the 4600 block of Lowcroft Avenue in Lansing.
Thursday night Lansing Police got a tip that helped them find Thomas on the 500 block of West Holmes.
Police believe the most recent assault may be related to the several other assaults because each of the attacks happened fairly close to one another around the same time of night and there were a similar suspect descriptions given in each case.
Captain Daryl Green, Lansing Police Department: "There is a strong possibility that the suspect may be related to other sexual assaults on the southwest section of Lansing -- we will be diligent in investigating all of our sexual assaults, we take them all very seriously and if there's a possibility he is involved in other ones he will be charged hopefully on those cases."
