TMSG: Local Movement Spreads Positive Message

Since the beginning of time, people have been looking for signs, signs that we're headed in the right direction, making the right choice or even getting close to the promised land.

Well now, a mid-Michigan man is doing his best to make sure you see the positive good signs all around you.

Let's be honest, when most people see road signs nobody says, "yippie!" Signs like, "Detour," "Work Zone," or the dreaded, "Construction Zone" sign that's popping up all over this time of year. Nope, none of those make you feel especially joyful.

But what if a sign actually made you smile for a change?

This unique sign is the brain-child of Eric Dennis of Lansing. He decided not to focus on all the fear, anger and division in the world.

"I'm not going down that route anymore. I'm going to go to a completely different approach," said Dennis, founder, This Is a Good Sign.

His idea is so different that when he and other supporters are out with the signs, they turn a lot of heads.

They've brought their good signs to the campus of Lansing Community College and to the Detroit Tiger's season opener in the motor city. But they're also getting attention from all over.

"We have signs in Greece, the U.K., all over the world," said Dennis.

Two years ago Eric and his sign appeared at a Washington D.C. rally and out of 50,000 thousand signs there, a photo of his was selected for an article in a British newspaper and shown on CNN.

"It's a universal message of love to support and encourage humanity during these troubled times," said Dennis.

People seem to love the message of love.

"I'm kind of a smile maker," said Jessie Magoon.

Magoon joined up to help with marketing and P.R. for This Is a Good Sign. He worked in construction for years, but saw this new venture as a good sign.

"We're consumed by things and we forget what life is. It's about the people, the unity and accepting people for who they are," said Magoon.

Dennis and Magoon say the good sign movement opens up conversation and gets people to laugh and talk, things they say are the important first steps towards peace.

"We're re-uniting humanity one good sign at a time and one personal interaction at a time," said Dennis.
