Governor Appoints New Jackson County Judge

There's a new judge in town.

Daniel Goostrey will take over as the new 12th District Court judge in Jackson. Governor Rick Snyder announced his appointment to the court on Friday.

Goostrey takes the seat of James Justin, who was removed from the bench following accusations of ticket-fixing and other improper behavior.

The appointment lasts through the end of the year. Goostrey will have to run for office this year if he wants to keep his seat beyond that.

"Dan Goostrey is an experienced lawyer with a diverse legal practice," said Snyder in a press release. "His extensive experience with public education and youth activities in the Jackson area will serve him well as a district judge."

Goostrey, who is from Jackson, has worked at several law firms and served as president of the Napoleon Board of Education. He went to Michigan Center High School, Jackson Community College, Eastern Michigan University, and got his law degree from Cooley Law School.
