Ingham County Votes to Dissolve Road Commission

With a 6 to 10 vote, the Ingham County Road Commission is finished.

Mark Grebner, County Commissoner: "The whole structure of the Ingham county road commission was a mistake from the beginning."

County Commissioner Mark Grebner say the move will not only streamline government but will address ongoing turmoil within the road commission.

Grebner: "The citizens of the county will continue to get pretty good service from their road commission and I think the employees will now be protected from political meddling."

But the road commission chair says the move is unfair.

Jim Dravenstatt Moceri, Road Commission Chair: "I'm very disappointed, I think we have some very competent road commissioners who've done an excellent job."

He says all he needed to turn things around was more time.

Dravenstatt Moceri: We were moving forward very positively and we were making a lot of headway but it looks like were not going to get the opportunity to finish the job that we started.

But some commissioners wanted to give him that opportunity.

Andy Schor, County Commissioner: "Over the last 4 months we've seen tremendous movement."

While county commissioner Andy Schor voted against the dissolving the board, he says he's ready to move forward with the decision.

Schor: "We've got very qualified staff, there's a very qualified managing director who will work with our controller and work with us so I think  the wheels will continue to be in motion."

The officials takeover of the road commission is set for June 1st.
