A local business reaches out to help an employee and family in need. Tim Jackson has been in the hospital for five weeks, but is without health insurance.
For those that enter the Green Door in Lansing on a regular basis, he's a fan favorite."T. J is wonderful, he probably has one the biggest hearts of anyone I have ever met," said General Manager Jenny Costigan."He is the friendliest person ever," said Lansing resident Wendy Whitlock."You can just walk past him and he'd say, hey how are you doing and you say hey T. J how are you doing," said Rachel Jackson.Door man Timothy Jackson has worked at the green door for 4 years. But for the last month, he's been absent from his job as he's in the hospital with blood clots on his lung."Not having him around has been pretty bad, especially the way it's been up and down, it was really touch and go if he was going to make it," said Daughter, Vanessa Jackson. And TJ's daughter Vanessa Jackson says as he's struggled with his health, it's also been a struggle to figure out how to pay for his treatment since her dad doesn't have health insurance.
That's why green door General Manager and Owner, Jenny Costigan decided to step in.
"We're just trying to raise some money to help him and his family to cover the costs of the medical expenses and just the day to day living, while he is not working," Costigan said.To do that, The Green Door hosted an event Sunday night charging a $10 cover, with music, silent auction items andfood. And all the proceeds go to TJ's family.
"It's amazing that Lansing can come together and do something like this for one of their own," Whitlock said.
The Jackson family says if their dad could see the support, he would be proud.
"It means a lot, my dad loves everybody, everywhere we go he knows somebody and just to see them show the support back means a lot, it touches my heart," said Daughter Brittany Jackson. And customers and co-workers hope to see TJ and his big heartback at The Green Door soon.
