Michigan Republican Party Chairman Bobby Schostak:
"We are disappointed with the Court's decision. However, it is clear that ObamaCare harms middle class families, job creators and individual liberty, and defeating ObamaCare begins on Nov. 6 when we elect Mitt Romney president. ObamaCare cripples job creators, discourages economic growth and creates new taxes on wheelchairs and insulin pumps. Americans deserve better, and real reform begins when we repeal all of ObamaCare. Republicans are fired-up and ready to work hard to defeat Pres. Obama and repeal this law in order to create real healthcare reform that put's middle class families and job creators first."
David Hecker, American Federation of Teachers Michigan president:
"Today will be cemented in history as the day the Supreme Court made a decision in favor of middle class families. "Healthcare shouldn't be an exclusive privilege for the 1%, and nobody in our country should have to decide between paying their medical bills or buying groceries. It's time for Lansing politicians to get to work, stop their partisan attempts to dismantle healthcare benefits for educators and to make sure all Michiganders are able to get affordable health care."
Pete Hoekstra, U.S. Senate candidate and former Michigan congressman:
"The health care law is unpopular because the American people now see that it will bankrupt the country, put Washington bureaucrats between them and their doctors, and cause prices to go up and quality of care to go down. We need to repeal the government takeover of health care and replace it with common sense, free market solutions that will provide affordable and accessible health care for all."
Michigan League for Human Services Policy Director Karen Holcomb-Merrill:
"We are ecstatic! This is great news for all Michiganders who are one accident, one tumor or one layoff away from health and financial disaster. The Affordable Care Act was a century in the making to provide all Americans with access to affordable, quality healthcare. We commend the Supreme Court for its decision.
Michigan Senate Minority Leader Gretchen Whitmer (D-East Lansing):
"The Supreme Court's decision is a major victory for middle class families throughout Michigan. The Affordable Care Act, the first major healthcare reform in decades, provides security for countless children, parents and workers throughout our state who otherwise could not afford or would be denied healthcare coverage. It makes Michigan healthier and our families more financially secure. I applaud the court for putting aside the false and politically motivated attacks against the Affordable Care Act and doing the right thing for the American people.".
U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow
Today, the Supreme Court affirmed what we've known all along. This is a big victory for health care reform. The decision continues our efforts to cut taxes for small businesses that provide coverage to their employees. It upholds protections for Michigan families that allow children with pre-existing conditions to get health care, lower prescription drug prices for seniors, and access to maternity care and mammograms for women. But Republicans are already on the attack. They are even more fired up, and they will not stop fighting to repeal the law and shift to their next target: eliminating Medicare as we know it.
