Last night's storms packed winds of up to 70 miles an hour in Clinton County's Saint Johns. @
Jim Ward and his wife were sleeping when the wicked winds whipped through his neighborhood.
"I think it was the metal of the car that woke me up, it was a very distinctive noise... Ugh," said Ward.
He came downstairs to a lawn full of foliage.
"Missed the house. So then I thought well, dodged one that time. Then I looked over at this side of the house and realized it was a bit more damaged," laughed Ward. "The whole trees were just in sway would reach about as far as it could go then swing back fast, then the wind would just pick them up and just throw them again."
"It was a little scary, I mean the storm was so intense it was a little bit frightening. I guess when you got near the window, you could feel the glass, hear it shake," Randy Jones.
Cleanup began almost immediately. Crews blocked off streets, trimmed what was left of the trees and started working to restore power to the thousands without it.
But while the damage may look bad, most were in fairly good spirits, saying a lot of downed trees means even more fire wood.
All of the homeowners 6 News spoke to say they were told they may be without power for 2 to 3 days.
