Clerk Leaves Register on Break, Thief Takes Money

Posted:

A Mid-Michigan gas station clerk wasn't an accomplice, but they seemed to help make a crime pretty easy.

It happened Wednesday night around 8p.m. at a Shell Gas Station in St Johns.

Police say the clerk went outside to take a break, perhaps not realizing there was someone inside the store. The suspect, seeing the unattended register, helped themselves to the cash and then took the clerk's wallet.

They describe him as a white man in his 20's. He's slender and stands about 6 feet tall. He was wearing a white t-shirt, long gray shorts, white sunglasses, and white shoes.

Police are checking out a surveillance video to help catch the thief and are ruling it a larceny.

There is no word on the employment status of the clerk.
