Mummified Man Found in Chair in Jackson Home

Posted:

A Jackson man was found dead after nearly two years in his girlfriend's home.

Friday, police found 67-year-old Charles William Zigler covered up in a living room chair. A medical examiner was called to the scene and determined Zigler died of natural causes around Christmas 2010.

Family members reported not having seen Zigler in some time and asked Jackson police to check on him, said Lt. Chris Simpson. An officer and sergeant went to his house in the 300 block of Cooper Street.

Zigler's 71-year-old girlfriend let the officers into the house, where they found him sitting in a chair. She admitted to knowing Zigler was dead and had covered up his body.

Simpson reported the body was mummified, but wouldn't release and further details.

The woman has not been arrested and police and prosecutors are still considering charges. Investigations are still underway. A report will be submitted to the Jackson County Prosecutor's Office for possible fraud among other charges.

Further details about case are not being released at this time.

Abby Grimmett is working this story and will have more throughout the day.
