Prices jump 30, 40 cents a gallon
UPDATE: Almost 1,400 customers in East Lansing were in the dark after a problem with a circuit break.
A total of 1,397 business and residential customers lost power around noon.
BWL spokesman Steve Serkaian says crews are working on the problem and re-routing many customers to another circuit.
Power was restored just before 3p.m.
City Hall will remain closed. Parents with kids at the Bailey Community Center are encouraged to pick up them up.
ORIGINAL STORY: A problem with a circuit break has plunged almost 1,000 customers of the Board of Water and Light into the dark.
Among those affected - businesses along Grand River Avenue - the main strip in downtown East Lansing.
BWL spokesman Steve Serkaian says the interruption happened at 11:57 a.m.
There's no word yet on what caused the problem or how long the power will be out, but crews are on the scene trying to solve the problem.
