A funny smell is causing concern in a Howell neighborhood.
Some people think it may have to do with the Enbridge oil pipe-line running under-ground, but that worry is now growing after a new report this week on the Kalamazoo River oil spill.
Donna Taylor is a self-described "naturalist" and that's why she started getting worried, when she smelled something "un-natural" in the air this spring.
"It smells like oil. Anyone who knows the smell of oil would recognize this," Taylor said.
When 6 News called Enbridge Thursday to ask what could be causing the odor, the spokesperson said the company has been looking into it.
"We have sent three individuals out to that location with monitoring equipment, and they've walked up and down the right-of-way, and have not found any indication, or evidence of oil, or natural gas leak. So, we can't explain the odor, there must be some other source for it," said Joe Martucci, an Enbridge Spokesperson.
But that doesn't put Taylor at ease, especially after the National Transportation Safety Board released a report on the Marshall oil spill this week saying Enbridge knew the pipe was cracking, but didn't take steps to prevent it.
"If nobody can say why, how can I find out? My husband, he tells me, don't dwell on it. We're coming down the street, I go, uh, there's the oil smell. It just, it upsets me. I can't help it," Taylor said.
A man who lives about a mile away from that spot told 6 News he has never noticed the smell.
Enbirdge officials did say it may have something to do with a dust-control treatment used on that gravel road.
