An early morning fire forced 20 people from their homes Friday morning.
It broke-out around 7a.m. Friday at the Ridge Wood Vista Apartments in Jackson County.
David Lyons' was one of the first people in the building to hear the fire.
"I looked out the back window and the whole back of the building was in flames," Lyons said.
He ran outside with his wife and 2-month-old daughter, without his shoes and started pounding on his neighbors doors.
"Pretty much lost everything," he said.
The fire started on his back porch. His home ended up being one of four units destroyed. Two other units had smoke and water damage.
Tricia Lasky lives in one of those.
"My kids were just in shock. They were crying, everyone was crying, nobody knew what to do," Lasky said.
She says she's one of the lucky ones because she'll be able to salvage some of her belongings.
But like her neighbors, she's overwhelmed by what she'll do next.
"There's all these extra expenses now. It's just so surreal. There's so many emotions to process at once. I don't think think it's set in all the way," said Lasky. "I think I'm just trying to take it in and keep my composure. I just need to be strong for my neighbors and my kids but I gurantee at the end of the day, when I get 10 minutes for myself, I'm probably going to take a hot bath and have a little nervous breakdown."
And it's going to take time to rebuild, but neighbors say there is some good in this tragedy. They're just glad everyone was able to make it out okay.
